Celypha cespitana

(Hübner, [1817])

Wingspan c. 15mm.

This species varies considerably in the intensity of the forewing markings, some being brightly coloured, others rather less contrasting.

It tends to inhabit dry calcareous or coastal habitats, and is distributed fairly widely but locally around much of the British Isles.

The adult moths fly between June and August and are active during the day, especially in sunshine.

The larva feeds on various low plants including thyme (Thymus) and sea-lavender (Limonium).
