The distribution of this moth covers most of Britain, where it occupies a range of habitats including gardens and waste ground.
The adults fly in August and September, when they can be attracted to sugar as well as to light.
The caterpillars feed on a range of herbaceous plants, including clover (Trifolium), plantain (Plantago), as well as various cultivated varieties.
