A species of open ancient woodland and some coastal habitats where the larvae feed on wood spurge or sea spurge, spinning the leaves of non flowering new growth together in a conspicuous clump. If the leaves are parted the larva can be found burrowing into the stem.

The moth is bivoltine, flying in May - June and again in July - August. It occasionally manages a third brood in exceptional summers.

It occurs in central and south east England, from the Midlands to the Kent coast.
