Pyrausta cingulata

(Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan 14-18 mm.

One of our lesser-known species, being rather local, mainly in chalky districts and by the coast. It is found in suitable areas throughout Britain to mid Scotland.

The foodplant is believed to be wild thyme (Thymus polytrichus).

The adults are quite distinctive and fly during the daytime. They are on the wing in May and June, and as a second generation from July to August.
