Rosy Underwing Catocala electa

Wingspan 65-80 mm.
A very rare visitor to the British Isles, with only a handful of records. The most recent was on the Isle of Wight, Hampshire in 2009.
Since 2002 it has occurred in the Channel Islands with some regularity.
Abroad, the species occurs in central and southern Europe and occupies mixed forest. The normal flight period is from July to September.
The larvae have not occurred in Britain, but elsewhere feed on sallow (Salix) and poplar (Populus).
