Crambus pratella
(Linnaeus, 1758)
Wingspan 22-25mm.
This rather local moth flies from late May to August and inhabits dry grasslands. In the daytime the adult can be found resting head down on grass stems. It sometimes flies in the sunshine towards evening, although it is mainly nocturnal.
The species can resemble Crambus lathoniellus, but this is smaller and has a narrower longitudinal streak.
The larvae, like many of the Crambidae, feed on the roots and stem bases of various grasses.
