Eudonia murana
(Curtis, 1827)
Wingspan c. 20mm.
This species and E. truncicolella are very similar in general appearance, and in fact are difficult to separate even by dissection.
Both are species to be found in moorland habitats, and although E. murana was previously thought to be present in southern England, it is now considered that these records may be attributable to E. truncicolella (RJH, Ent. Gaz. 51 (2000)).
More complete distribution information is clouded by the confusion, but the species is said to occur in Scotland, Wales and Northern England.
The larvae feed on mosses growing on rocks and walls. Adult moths are on the wing between June and August, possibly in two generations.
