A very attractive and distinctive-looking species, Scarce Pug rests with an attenuated posture, giving it an unmistakeable appearance.

It is restricted to a few localities from East Anglia to Humberside, occupying saltmarsh habitats.

The adults fly in a single generation during June and July.

The larval foodplant is sea wormwood (Seriphidium maritimum), the caterpillars feeding on the leaves and flowers during August and September.
