Platytes cerussella
([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)
Wingspan c. 10-15 mm.
The males and females of this species are noticeably different; the males being darker than the females and usually slightly larger, though it is a very small moth.
It prefers coastal or inland sandy habitats, and occurs southwards from East Anglia.
The adult moths fly in June and July, and the larvae feed in the root complex of grasses and sedges growing in these sandy habitats, possibly on sand sedge (Carex arenaria).
